Being a fifth generation Japanese American born in Alabama has its perks. Growing up in Birmingham exposed Jaime Isobe to the dimensional culinary traditions of the Southern fabric. Food was always a focus at home - a way to transform the day and bring the family together to share a moment. With 3 older sisters and West Coast/Hawaiian born parents, the battle for identity and control was a top priority. It was through programs featuring greats like Julia Child and Jacques Pépin that focused his attention on cooking.

One of the first tasks in the Isobe kitchen was to make rice and help prepare the vegetables for family dinner. Through the years of tinkering in the kitchen with Mom & Dad, Jaime also found himself in kitchens of local pizzerias and restaurants. The Birmingham’s rich food landscape always had his attention but upon moving to NY, his interest in cooking skyrocketed as he fell in love with the diverse culinary styles the city boasted.

His love for French, Indian, Italian, and Japanese cooking is often highlighted with a Southern comfort food approach that culminates in a unique blend of styles and flavors. Isobe is currently working in NY’s nightlife and music industry booking events and concerts. Winning the 2016 Create TV Cooking Challenge gave him the confidence to pursue food vlogging head on.
